Getting Hitched: Dallas Vendor Reviews, Part 2

Check out Part One of my vendor reviews, here!

Haute Floral, www.hautefloral.com, Highly Recommend

I mentioned in my previous post that I wanted my reviews to focus on the vendors I would absolutely hire again if I had to start the whole process over. Kristen of Haute Floral is definitely one of those vendors. Not only is this girl crazy talented, but I just had the best time working with her. And lets be honest - having a wedding florist that you love to talk to and plan with is one of the best things that could happen to a bride.

When I first met with her I loved how quickly she jumped on board with my ideas and saw my "vision". A few months later, she completely wowed me with my gorgeous bridal portrait bouquet. And when it was finally time for the wedding, she knocked it out of the park - I loved every part of the flower arrangements and bouquets she put together. I talked about my experience choosing her here, and she certainly lived up to my expectations.

One thing I really want to focus on was Kristen's flexibility as we got closer to the wedding. Although she had originally typed up a quote and list of everything I wanted at our initial consultation, she also assured me that it was more than fine if things changed as we got closer. I didn't think much of it at first, but as the big day drew closer it was very appreciated. And for those who are skeptical and saying, "well of course she allowed change - she wanted you to add more!", I promise it wasn't just additions to the bottom line. I had originally wanted to put a pretty significant amount of our budget toward flowers (I know many don't understand that, but it was something I wanted to do) and while we did still end up spending a large amount on them, as we got closer to the wedding I realized we might need to shift some money around a bit. I knocked out a few alter pieces that the Piazza's chapel and our ceremony could really do without, changed up the reception centerpieces, altered the bouquets a little, etc. Having a florist who was willing to cater to these changes and display some flexibility was extremely helpful.

Overall, Kristen was great. She was quick to respond to e-mails, easy to talk to and work with, and the arrangements she designs are gorgeous. One of my very favorite vendors to work with.

Randy Ro Entertainment (DJ), www.randyro.com, Recommend

When it came to choosing our DJ and our reception music, I wasn't one of the brides who wanted to choose every single song on the playlist, but rather one who wanted a DJ who would get to know Mr. C and I, and then play songs that fit us and our wedding. Our DJ, Michael, with Randy Ro Entertainment did exactly this. Our initial meeting was with Randy himself, which gave us the chance to ask our questions and get a quote, as well as allow Randy to match us up with one of his DJs that he thought would best fit our wedding. Closer to the wedding, we met with our DJ, Michael, talked about what we liked and didn't like, which songs we definitely wanted played for special dances, etc., and really just got to know each other. Most online correspondence is with Randy's wife and client concierge, Roxanne, and she was very responsive when I had questions or wanted to make payments.

Randy Ro Entertainment also has a great online tool which allows you to add songs to Must Play, Try to Play, and Don't Play lists. Their entire database of songs is online to choose from, and it's a great way to request that they buy a song that they don't have (although I can only think of one, maybe two songs that I wanted and they didn't have). Once you put down your deposit and are officially on the calendar, you are given access to your online account and the planning tools. I loved this feature because any time during the year of planning, I could log on to the website and add songs as they came to mind. It was much easier than waiting until the end and trying to come up with all the songs we liked in one sitting.

Overall, great experience dealing with both Randy and the business side of things, as well as our actual DJ, Michael, at the wedding. I would definitely recommend them!

Marriott Solana - Southlake, www.marriott.com, Recommend

I really wanted to include the hotel we stayed at in vendor reviews because they honestly surprised me quite a bit. Because we were simply reserving rooms at the hotel, and not actually having our wedding or reception there, I was really just expecting them to have our rooms ready when we got there and tell us congratulations on our way out. However, everyone I came into contact with at the hotel both before the wedding as well as the weekend of, was extremely accommodating and very aware of the fact that we were getting married, which a bride always appreciates ;)

Enjoying my view from the Marriott Solana's Junior Suite!
We reserved about ten rooms for our bridal party and immediate families, including the suite the girls and I got ready in and then Mr. C and I stayed in after the wedding. They had all of the rooms ready for us when we arrived so that all of the out-of-towners could get showered and dressed before the rehearsal, and when we needed to make a last minute addition the night before the wedding (literally at 1:00am when we returned with our bridal party and didn't want Bridesmaid J's boyfriend to have to drive across the metroplex) they gave us no problems at all and just added it to the list. After the wedding, when Mr. C and I got back to our suite they had a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries waiting on us. Again, if we had been getting married at their hotel I would've expected this, but I was honestly so surprised they even remembered we were getting married (ha, who could forget with our loud group lingering in the lobby bar.) They really just did a great job of making our stay enjoyable and the hotel itself is very unique and beautiful. My contact was Brandi, an Event Manager, and she was great to work with. She was very responsive and made sure all of our requests were taken care of. I would certainly recommend using their hotel for accommodations even if you are having your wedding somewhere else - we had a great experience.

Vanessa McKellar Productions, www.vanessamckellar.com, Highly Recommend

Oh, where do I even begin? Vanessa was the very first vendor I contacted after Mr. C and I got engaged. No joke, I think she knew about our engagement even before a few family members found out. I have been following her work since I discovered her about four years ago, long before Mr. C even proposed, and I have always known I wanted her to film our wedding. From the beginning, I had very, very high expectations about working with her and the wedding video she would eventually create for us, and she did not disappoint (highlights video coming soon - stay tuned!)

Vanessa and Brent are just so talented. They really have a gift for making memorable, emotional wedding videos. I have laughed and cried watching not only our wedding videos, but many others that Vanessa and Brent have filmed and edited as well. They capture the "big" moments beautifully and tie in so many smaller and intimate details to make these fabulous films and I just can't speak highly enough about their work. And of course, the icing on the cake is the fact that they are so great to work with! As if their awesome talent was not enough, they are the nicest couple and such a joy to have around on your wedding day.

Megan Fortner Photography, www.meganfortner.com, Recommend

Last, but certainly not least, the wonderful photographer who has provided me with all of the photos you've been seeing the last few months. Megan did a fabulous job for us from start to finish. We used her for engagement photos, bridal portraits, and our wedding day photography, and I was so happy with the results of every event. Some of you might remember my photo dilemma while I was planning the wedding, and I am so happy to say that I feel as if I made the right decision by choosing Megan.

Not only have we been happy with our photos, but Megan was really fun to work with. She made both of us feel super comfortable in front of the camera, which we were so thankful for during our engagement shoot, and I had the best time "modeling" my dress during the bridal session. I would 100% recommend Megan to anyone looking for a great photographer. I'm so glad we got to take advantage of her services before she gets super famous in the wedding industry and we couldn't afford her :)

In addition to those listed above, we also used these great vendors that I would happily recommend to any of you:

Getting Hitched: Dallas Vendor Reviews, Part 1

Last week marked my one year anniversary (crazy!) for blogging on the 'Bee and I decided I really should wrap things up for you guys instead of just leaving you hanging without any closure. I have a handful of posts that have been waiting for me to hit the "Publish" button, so I will be sharing those with you all before it's finally time for me to say goodbye!

I've debated a good bit about whether or not I wanted to do a vendor review post. Although we (thankfully) didn't have anyone do a terrible job for us, the idea of rating people still makes me feel a little strange. However, when I think about just how much I appreciate a well-written review, wedding related or not, I really couldn't pass up the opportunity to share my experiences with all of these wedding industry professionals.

Like I mentioned before, no one that we hired did a terrible, or even sub-par, job. If you were to hire any of the vendors we used for our wedding I would be willing to bet you would have a positive experience. What I really want to highlight is the people who did an exceptional job. The ones that I would 100%, without a doubt, hire again if I were to do the whole wedding planning thing over again. Thankfully that won't be happening ;) but I know many of you are in the process of making these decisions, and in my experience reviews were extremely helpful. Dallas bees, always feel free to contact me if you have any other questions about the vendors we used!

Lasting Bridal Couture, www.lastingbridalcouture.comHighly Recommend

Shopping for my wedding gown was an awesome experience, especially the time spent at Lasting Bridal Couture. My consultant, Sarah, was just beyond fabulous. She was helpful, encouraging, and really listened to what I wanted in my dress. In addition to my dress, we also ordered the bridesmaids' dresses from the same store, and Sarah was very knowledgeable about how the colors compare to the swatches, how the sizes run, etc. The store allows you to order the bridesmaid dresses online, which is super helpful when all of your bridesmaids are in different locations and can't all come to the store at once, and they had the lowest prices that I found.

My dress came in on time. My alterations went smoothly with their in house seamstress, Wendy. Everyone was always very helpful and enthusiastic when I called or visited the store (and believe me, I'm the bride who calls a lot.) An all around fabulous job by everyone involved, and I would definitely recommend the store and their products!

I've had a few people ask, so for anyone else who might be curious, my dress is the Fantine by Maggie Sottero!

Lindey Duckworth Hair, www.lindey.net, Recommend

Although our wedding went off without a hitch, I did have a minor freak out moment about two weeks before the big day. My hair stylist, Lindey, contacted me and told me she had unfortunately had a family issue come up, and she was afraid it would interfere with styling my hair on my wedding day. I won't lie, I freaked a little. This was really the only speed bump that we had hit in our planning, and I was afraid I was going to be without a hair stylist on the day of my wedding. Luckily, Lindey handled it perfectly. She told me her sister (who is also a hair stylist and shares a salon with Lindey) would be available to do my hair, told me I could come in for a trial with her sister to make sure I was happy with it, and if for some reason I was not, she would figure out a way to be there on my wedding day. Long story short, I was happy with her sister, Holly, she ended up doing my hair on our wedding day, and she did a great job. She also styled Momma C's hair, as well as all of my bridesmaids' hair, so all of the beautiful work you see in my photos belongs to her!

Momma C getting her hair styled by Holly.
Because I had originally hired Lindey, I do still want to focus this review on her as well. I was extremely happy with how she styled my hair for my bridal portraits. I took a few inspiration photos into the salon and she did a wonderful job of following the photos while still making the style work for me and my hair. She was fun to be around and great to work with. Just as important, if not more, than the things I have already mentioned, she also didn't leave me high and dry two weeks before my wedding without a hair stylist. She gave me another great option, and ultimately told me she would honor her commitment if plan "b" didn't work out. She is super skilled when it comes to hair, as well as a reliable person to hire for your big day.

AH Makeup Artistry, www.ahmakeupartistry.com, Highly Recommend

Amanda was just fabulous; she was great to work with and a lot of fun! Some of you might remember that she did my makeup way back when I took my engagement photos. In total, she actually did my makeup four times: my makeup trial, engagement photos, bridal portraits, and the wedding. Once she had worked her magic once, I was addicted and I couldn't pass up any opportunity to sit in her chair and let her put my "face" on.

Work in progress!
I do not wear a lot of makeup on a daily basis. Okay... let's be honest, most days I'm not wearing any makeup. But I do like to spruce things up a bit for special occasions, and I especially want to look my best when it's something like my wedding. Amanda did a great job of giving my makeup a natural look, while still making me feel good in my own skin - nothing too bold that would make me uncomfortable. However, just because I lean more towards the natural looking makeup doesn't mean that's all she's capable of. Her website also displays few bolder looks as well, and she as just as talented when it comes to adding that extra color.

A big part of how I judged my makeup was how it looked in pictures, and I was extremely happy with the outcome. I felt like my eyes and lips had just enough "pop!" and there was an overall glow that was perfect for bridal makeup. Seriously, Dallas ladies, just go hire her right now and enjoy looking fabulous and feeling great about yourself on your wedding day!

Piazza in the Village, www.piazzainthevillage.com, Recommend

The Piazza was awesome to work with from beginning to end. Our first impression was our initial meeting with Lorna, their Sales Director, who was wonderful and a big part of the reason we chose the Piazza. After we had signed our contract, our Piazza contact became our wedding coordinator, Tabitha, who was equally as wonderful. I loved that the Piazza provides you with a coordinator as part of your wedding package. It was great to not only have her there from beginning to end, but to also have someone who was so familiar with Piazza weddings.

Aside from the coordinator the Piazza provides you with (who was priceless on the actual wedding day - couldn't have done it without her!) they also provide an attendant who is helping out in both the bride and groom's suite on the actual wedding day. Our attendant was fabulous and definitely went the extra mile to help make sure I was happy and enjoying myself. She stayed right with me even when Tabitha couldn't, helped lace up my dress and carried my train when needed, and made sure I had a glass of water or champagne in my hand any time I was thirsty. I know, I know, crazy bride alert, but it really was so nice to have her there.

As far as food goes, The Piazza does all of the catering in-house, and everything was FANTASTIC. Literally, Mr. Coach and I still talk about how much we enjoyed it. Their food and beverage minimums are definitely high, but we were not let down by the quality of the food we purchased, and we were actually surprised to find that the food was even better on our wedding day than it was at our tasting. We were also very happy with the size of the venue (we chose the smaller, Village Ballroom, for our reception) as well as how smoothly everything ran throughout the day. All in all, a great experience with our venue. Every meeting with our coordinator was enjoyable and helpful, the venue is beautiful and the staff was great, and our wedding day was absolutely perfect for us.

Jenny Glass - Harpist,  www.texasharp.comHighly Recommend

Jenny Glass is one of the kindest people I have ever met. She was such a joy to work with, and even though I didn't get to talk to her during our wedding ceremony, (I was a little busy getting married and whatnot) I loved having her there and knowing she was contributing in such a special way. Getting to pick some of our favorite songs, and hear them played on a beautiful harp was the perfect addition to our ceremony.

I talked about Jenny a little after I first hired her, and my more recent experience with her was no less phenomenal. A few weeks before the wedding, she emailed over some example ceremonies to give me an idea of how many songs we would need for entrances, etc. but also gave me free reign to pick and choose as I liked. It was the perfect amount of structure for me - it gave me an idea of how many songs to choose without making the music to choppy from starting and stopping, but I was also able to provide her with enough songs that we liked so that there wouldn't be any guessing involved. She was quick to respond to emails and always happy to answer my questions. She also reads her "sheet" music from her iPad, which I love. It allows her to be ready for any last minute changes or extra time she needs to fill - more music is just a click away, and it gives a bride a lot of peace of mind knowing your musician is well prepared.

Along with the food the Piazza served, the other part of the wedding we got the most compliments on was the music Jenny played on her harp before and during our ceremony. Any review I write really can't do justice to how great she was, you just have to meet her and hear her play to really understand. I am so, so glad we found her and chose to work with her.

I know my vendor review posts are focused on Dallas area brides, but I promise I do have a post or two coming up that will appeal to you all, so stick around! And in the mean time, tell me which vendor you were happiest with at your wedding, or the one you're most excited to work with on your big day!

Getting Hitched: Details of the Day

The details of our day really don't need much explanation, but these are all of the things, large and small, that made our day feel more like "us". From the clothes we chose to wear, to the flower arrangements and cakes, to the rings on our hands, every item was an important part of our big day. I have always really loved the detail posts on Weddingbee (almost as much as I love the Budget Breakdowns!) and I'm so excited to be sharing so of my favorite details with you guys. Some of these pictures have already popped up in other posts while others I have been specifically holding onto for this post, but I hope you guys enjoy seeing them all in one place as much as I do.

All photography in this super picture-heavy post by Megan Fortner!

Gift for Momma C, mentioned here.
The items in this photo are so, so special to me. Way back when in my getting ready post, I shared the picture (above) of my gift for my momma. I (well, a seamstress) used pieces of her wedding dress to make a handkerchief for her to keep. I also used pieces of her dress to create the ring pillow that our precious little ring bearer would carry down the aisle. If you hadn't already guessed by looking at my dress, I love lace, and I was so happy to use pieces of Momma C's beautiful lace gown for something special for my wedding.

Laying on top of the pillow is the strand of pearls that belonged to my sweet great-grandmother (mentioned here) that I was so excited to wear on my wedding day. My great-grandfather gave the necklace to her on a special occasion and it was one of the few pieces of nice jewelry she owned, along with her wedding ring.

Another one of my favorite details was these cute little guys who decided to hitch a ride on my bouquet:

Need a closer look? ... It's my bees! I was so excited to partake in this tradition here in the Hive and having those little guys with me on my wedding day was such a great reminder of you guys. My particular bees have made quite the journey in the past and were passed on to me by the lovely Mrs. Fairy. They've since been shared with Mrs. Lyre on her wedding day, and just recently were with Mrs. Squirrel on hers! In case you're curious, these are all of the other Blogger Bees who have carried these particular bees with them: Meerkat, Rainbow, Eggs Benedict, French Toast, Elephant (woo, DFW bees!), Sloth, Prairie Dog, Jam, Panther, Snow Cone, Pony, Cucumber Sandwich, Skunk, Raccoon, Porcupine, Hawk, and Scone!

In honor of my cute little Coach icon, I also found the cutest coach charm in an Etsy shop and was so excited to carry it on my bouquet as well. I gave Kristen free reign with how she wanted to incorporate the two items and I loved where she placed them!

And just when you thought there couldn't possibly be any more lace left from Momma C's wedding dress, the lace wrap around the base of my bouquet is also a piece of her dress! Basically, anything that was going to be lace was going to be pieces of her dress ;)

I think if I absolutely had to pick one detail shot that's my favorite, it would probably be the shot of Mr. C's new bling on his ring finger. It just looks so darn good on him ;)

Getting Hitched: Our Final Moments As the Bride and Groom

After the bouquet and garter had been tossed and we had shared a few more group dances with our closest friends, it was time for the final dance of the night. Mr. C and I chose to have a private last dance before we made our exit from the reception and it was such a perfect conclusion to our wedding day. The DJ stayed long enough to put the song on (you'll notice he's in the first photo but not the later ones) and then he stepped out, leaving us alone with only our videographers and photographers. Obviously their presence didn't keep us from acting like newlyweds ;)

We danced to "Wonderful Tonight" by Eric Clapton and you'll probably notice I made a little wardrobe change beforehand. Okay seriously, how could you not notice that big white dress was no longer in the picture. Momma Coach was staying behind to take everything from the Piazza that belonged to us, and I also wanted her to be able to take my dress back to our house versus having to figure out what to do with it once we returned to the hotel and headed out for our honeymoon the next day.

I'm a big fan of the wardrobe change pre-exit, but my suggestion to those who plan to change would be to slip away towards the end of your reception and change into your new dress rather than doing it once your guests are already outside lining up for the exit. If you're not doing a last dance it's not a terribly long amount of time for them to wait outside (unless you have a lace up ball gown - aaaalways allow more time for dealing with a lace up ball gown) but if you're doing a private dance and you want to change, that's a pretty long time for your guests to be waiting outside, especially if it's chilly! Our coordinator had suggested I change before the last dance, and it worked out perfectly.

After the music stopped, we took in the last few moments of our wedding day as we made our way toward the ballroom exit. I grabbed my bouquet, (if you look back through all of our photos you'll notice I carried that thing as much as possible!) the doors opened, and we made our way to our getaway car as our friends and family cheered us on.

This part of the night went by so quickly but I absolutely loved it. The Piazza has a good bit of restrictions on what you can use for your exit - no sparklers, no confetti, extra charge for picking up tossed rose petals, etc. - so we decided to go with bubbles and they worked out perfectly. I had read that bubbles look great at night because of the reflections off of the lights and flashes and I think that proved to be true! We really had no complaints about the bubbles, although judging by Mr. C's face they apparently didn't taste too good:

For those of you who are still trying to decide what to use for your exit, our videographer did a great post a while back about the pro's and con's of different items used for getaways. I always love getting the opinion of photographers and videographers on those types of decisions and Vanessa definitely knows what she's talking about!

I like to call this my "paparazzi" shot ;)

And just like that, we were in our town car driving away! The drive back to the hotel was filled with a whole lot of "oh my gosh.. we just got married!" type statements while also seriously considering having the driver take us to a fast food drive-through.

Once we got back to the hotel, we made our way up to our suite, only to realize we had forgotten to have our officiant, Josh, sign our marriage license at the Piazza. This woudn't have been a huge deal except for the fact that he had left the reception early causing us to fear he was already asleep in his room, and we were flying out super early the next day so we wouldn't be able to meet up with him the next morning. Luckily, a phone call revealed he was still awake and offered to meet us in the lobby to sign the document. We threw on some comfy clothes and headed down to meet our officiant in the lounge. Super romantic, huh? And it doesn't end there. We also realized we hadn't set up a way for Mr. C's tuxedo to make it back to the store on Monday. (If I remember correctly that was his job ;) ) At this point none of our bridal party had even made it back to the hotel yet and Momma C was just heading back to the hotel after helping clean up the ballroom. She offered to drop the suit off the next day, so we also had to set up a meeting with her in the lobby to give her the suit. Again, sounds like crazy wedding night fun, huh? Luckily, after that final mishap all of the details had been taken care of and the rest of the night was all ours. Some of you might remember that actually meant we ordered room service, like I mentioned here. So, we're back to the beginning - or at the end, depending on how you want to look at it. Seriously, how did we even get here?!

Coming up next - lots and lots of wedding details! You just thought I was finished! ;)
